A recent study has revealed the incomes necessary for families to live comfortably across the United States - and the stark contrast in the cost of living between states is startling.  The study revealed that in the most expensive states, families need nearly $300,000 to simply live 'comfortably.' The least expensive state requires about half that salary - still over $100,000.  Meanwhile, the average annual salary in the US is $59,428, or $28.34 per hour, as of May 2024.  

Malinda Hoagland, 12, was found 'barely alive' by police on May 4 after her father Rendall Hoagland called 911 claiming she had crashed her bicycle on a tree. The girl, who weighed just 50 pounds, died just hours after arriving at the hospital, where officials were shocked by her condition, which included heavy bruising, half a dozen broken bones and liver damage. Hoagland, 52, and his fiancé Cindy Warren, 45, were charged in connection to her death two days later. Republican firebrand Rep. Lauren Boebert 's son still does not have an attorney to represent him in his criminal case over a month after he told the court he could not afford a lawyer - and the judge was not happy about it. Tyler Boebert, 18, told 9th Judicial District Judge John F. Neiley on May 9 that he had just sent in the paperwork necessary to obtain a public defender in his theft case. 'Alright, well, it sounds like we're making some progress,' Neiley told Tyler Boebert, before adding, 'I wish you'd turned in that application a little sooner.' 'If you've done that, we just have to wait for the public defender to make their decision,' the judge continued.

Ella Riley Adler lost her life on Saturday afternoon off the coat of Key Biscayne's Nixon Beach, when a boater collided with her before speeding away from the scene. The suspected driver of the boat has not yet been arrested, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) said the boater was last seen speeding away from the scene heading west from Nixon Beach. Adler was reportedly celebrating a friend's birthday at the time of the crash, and a first responder told WSVN they arrived on the scene to find 'a lot of blood in the water.' Tributes have poured in for the talented Florida teen after her tragic death, with her family saying that 'when she walked into a room, everyone was drawn to her.'

Miss Teen USA first runner-up Stephanie Skinner has revealed she declined the title because she didn't want to sacrifice her 'character' - adding that she would always 'stand for female empowerment.' The news comes after a shocking beauty pageant scandal, which saw both Miss USA 2023 and Miss Teen USA 2023 announcing that they were resigning within days of each other amid reports of bullying and harassment. Miss USA Noelia Voigt, 24, first shared her surprise resignation via Instagram, explaining that she wanted to focus on her 'physical and mental well-being.' It was then followed by 17-year-old Miss Teen USA UmaSofia Srivastava announcing she too was stepping down because her personal values 'no longer fully align with the direction of the organization.'

Auditions for a hotly contested spot on the cheer squad representing the team, which has thrice won the Super Bowl in the 2020s, are blowing up on Instagram. On May 3, judges welcomed finalists for in-person tryouts at the Chief's home venue or Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. Barzan Kamal Majeed, nicknamed 'Scorpion', was arrested in Iraq by the Kurdistan Region's security forces on Monday, according to reports. Majeed, a former Nottingham mechanic, had been missing since November 2022 when he failed to appear in court in Belgium for a sentencing hearing after having been convicted of trafficking offences. Majeed, in a recent interview with the BBC , admitted that between 2016 and 2019 he was one of two people running a people smuggling gang in Belgium and France. He did, however, deny being the boss of the operation, alleging that other gang members tried to implicate him to reduce their sentences.

Footage that quickly circulated on social media showed Fury Snr lashing out with his head towards Stanislav Stepchuk, who was wearing Usyk's team tracksuit. Fury Snr had to be restrained after security stepped in to prevent any further confrontation and was pictured with blood pouring from a wound on his forehead. He had become embroiled after members of Usyk's camp repeatedly roared their man's name at Fury's entourage. The rest of the angry crowd showed restraint.

Zhang Jinxia, 28, was feeding his 17-month-old daughter as she sat in her stroller when she suddenly fell sideways, narrowly missing the tiled floor before he quickly grabbed her by her jumper. With the bowl of baby food still in his hand, Mr Jinxia pats his daughters back as she begins to cry from the shock. Luckily the baby was not hurt but he decided to push the pram away and keep her safe on his lap instead. The video was captured on May 4 in Hefei, southern China , and went viral on Chinese social media.

Ashley Deese(left), the daughter of Theresa Jones, 56, (right) said police had been stumped over her mother's disappearance, and criticized their investigation that was seemingly solved once medium Carolyn Clapper stepped in.  Ashley claimed medium Carolyn Clapper was able to provide eerily accurate details leading to the body, but remains unsatisfied as cops never spoke to her and ruled the death as an accidental drowning caused by methamphetamines. Clapper said: 'There would be a log, she kept showing me this pronounced log, a very big log in the woods.'
